The restaurant and wine bar Postino will open in Chapel Hill’s University Place shopping center this fall, the business shared in a press release Tuesday. The restaurant will occupy Suite 302 in the complex.

Postino’s new space will include both a 4,485-square-foot interior and a 1,888-square-foot patio, “offering plenty of space for guests to gather, unwind and connect.” Original in-house artwork and a community-inspired mural will also be featured.

“From its vibrant local culture to its strong sense of community, Chapel Hill felt like a natural place for Postino to grow,” said Lauren Bailey, co-founder and CEO of Postino. “We look forward to opening our doors and creating a space where guests can slow down, share a meal and enjoy time together.”

Postino says its bar will include more than 20 wines available by the glass, as well as a variety of North Carolina craft brews. The restaurant will be open daily for lunch and dinner, with a menu that features shareable boards of bruschetta, charcuterie and more. Guests can use Postino’s “Bottle & Board” offer Monday and Tuesday evenings, which offers any bottle of wine and a bruschetta board for $25.

The Postino name comes from the Italian word for “postman,” referencing the 1940s-era post office where the original restaurant first opened. The Chapel Hill location will be its third in the state of North Carolina. The restaurant already has locations in Charlotte and Raleigh, with another location in the Charlotte area coming soon. Other Postino restaurants can be found in Arizona, California, Colorado, Georgia, Tennessee and Texas. All of the locations are owned by Upward Projects, an Arizona-based restaurant development company.

“While every location is uniquely tailored to its neighborhood,” read Tuesday’s release from Upward, “each reflects the brand’s commitment to creating a welcoming ‘third place’ where guests can gather and feel at home.

“At its core, Postino is driven by a simple but powerful mission: to ‘Make People Feel Good,'” the release concluded.

Once open, Postino will be the latest restaurant option for visitors to the University Place. The Chapel Hill mall already features Alfredo’s Pizza Villa, Stoney River, the Trilogy restaurant, bartaco, the Flying Biscuit Cafe, Hawkers Asian Street and H&H Bagels. The area where Postino plans to open also includes Jeni’s Ice Cream and future locations for the donut and coffee shop The Salty as well as the fast-casual Indian restaurant Curry Up Now — all of which is part of the mall’s recent redevelopment to include more outward-facing retail suites.
