A popular breakfast restaurant is set to open its first location in Chapel Hill next year.

Flying Biscuit Café will be opening a new location at the University Place mall in mid-2021, according to the restaurant and University Place management.

Founded in Georgia back in 1993, the all-day breakfast joint now also has franchises in North Carolina, South Carolina, Florida, Missouri and Texas, including one café in Raleigh. Described as having a “Southern-inspired menu of comfort food,” the Flying Biscuit serves breakfast all day and touts baking approximately 5,000 biscuits per week at each of its locations.

According to University Place, the new restaurant will move into one of the newly-constructed storefronts completed as part of the mall’s Phase 1 of renovation. The new Flying Biscuit Café will have an external entrance be between the existing bartaco restaurant and Hawkers Asian Street Food restaurant, which opened in March. In addition to those restaurants, Alfredo’s Pizza Villa, Stoney River Steakhouse and Grill and a Chick-Fil-A location are located within the mall.

While the Flying Biscuit website lists a spring 2021 opening for the new Chapel Hill café, management for University Place said Tuesday the restaurant is expected to open in the summer.
