The Elitist Attitude of Carrboro
A perspective from Chad Miller
When we moved to Carrboro a little over a year ago, we really thought we had found the perfect place to live for a long time. We made the move from Raleigh wanting to live in a more economically diverse area with proximity to local eateries and stores.
Almost immediately we realized that the area was not what we thought it was. The first instances was when we realized that no one really takes leash or nuisance animal laws seriously. Nearly every day, we have to yell at someone to leash their dog. Again, this is a town ordinance, yet no one ever seems to be around to catch people. We have had dogs for decades now and have never seen a community so disregard the safety of others.
This is just a symptom of the elitist and above the law attitude of Carrboro. We had much more evidence as Covid-19 has been among us, we have witnessed so many people not have regard for others’ safety.
There are many more areas to talk about, but I will leave it at this. We are gladly leaving this horrible and poorly led town. It is quickly becoming an elitist area only for those who let their children and animals run free.

Ok boomer
Lol at ‘only for those who let their children and animals run free.’ i hope he finds a nicer community where both children and dogs are properly leashed
In 2020, that’s your hill to die on?
How very Chad of you
I am going to train my unleashed wild child to attack at the first scent of this whiny Chad.
God forbid children roam free. As a Carrboro resident, I very rarely see unleashed dogs in and around the downtown area. I’m not sure where Chad’s loose cabals of dogs lurk.
I suspect that the irony of judging others as elitist (judging being an elitist act) is lost on Chad. I also suspect that Chad may have more unsavory reasons to leave Carrboro, perhaps not appropriate to be printed.
Also, calling a restaurant an “eatery” is like when Mitt Romney said how much he liked “sport.”
Is this a joke? I hope this is a joke.
Chad… no… don’t leave… Carrboro desperately needs people like you who move here from Raleigh and decide that you’re too good for it… what will Carrboro do without you
Don’t let the door hitcha where the good lord splitcha!
Dude! Chill! But honestly I’m like sooooo glad that you are leaving my beloved little town. Thinking that I could accidentally meet a jerk like you here – gives me creeps! Bah-Bye, Chad! Don’t let the doors to hit your “non-elitist” back. Not short enough your stay was here.
Bye Chad.
I am laughing and crying because Chad, you have become the elitist you are complaining about. Carrboro is wonderful.
I personally muzzle my children on all leashes walks. Sorry our paths didn’t cross, Chaf.
Where “children and animals run free”. Oh, the horror! Yep. You had better leave soon before you are attacked by savage children. I hear their bites are worse than dog bites!
I came here to say “okay Chad” and then realized this guy’s name was actually Chad 😂😂😂 go back to Raleigh.
I’ve lived in Carrboro for 7 years and I would not choose the word “elitist” to describe it at all. “Friendly” and “tolerant” come to mind. Proud to call Carrboro home.
this has to be a joke.
LOL
The name Chad in itself sounds elitist to me. Bye Chad maybe Apex has less wildlife children and dogs.
I think through your comments his point was proven.
Chad clearly didn’t research the town slogan before moving here
Well, maybe the guy has had his dog attacked before?
Maybe he has a point by the way you all attacked him.
I have felt attacked a lot and it was shown on a documentary that gained a lot of attention.
And so…all these comments totally disprove Chad…(detect my sarcasm) 😏
So, I am guessing you all are not for keeping dogs leashed? Or children supervised?
I personally am, but I don’t like being called an elitist. Although I always keep my dogs leashed and my kids where I know where they are.
I wish him well on his move, need help packing?
Do you all approve of voter intimidation too? BLM flags outside of polling place? Why not post signs supporting Hunter Biden and “the Big Guy”? Glad I live in Tennessee.
Isn’t Raleigh economically diverse? Aren’t there eateries and stores in Raleigh? We live in little Mebane which has a diverse economy and eateries and stores so we don’t need to move. All of our dogs are leashed but somehow our cats don’t need them. Squirrels are rampant and the occasional raccoon, possum, rabbit , coyote and fox walk by. Our kids are locked under the kitchen sinks. I’ll bet there is some serious crime in Carrboro, just like in Raleigh and Mebane. Maybe that takes precedence over wrangling of dogs and children.
“When you look for the bad in people, you will surely find it.” (from the movie Pollyanna)
They’re group thinkers, Liberal towns/cities go with the flow. A pet should be with it’s owner, and if out secured for the safety of the pet from bring harmed. Children should be with their parents, or the parents know where they are and are safe. It’s called taking “responsibility.” That should be applied everywhere. Learn to think for yourselves, you might find it refreshing.
I’ll start from addressing the comments: I hope they reflect internet culture, not Carrboro culture in general. Internet tends to bring more harassing style of communication and I feel sorry to see in in connection with Carrboro.
I also can connect to the authors feeling about unleashed dogs – i know people who don’t feel safe when in presence of unleashed dog (and even leashed, but too big dog that is on a leash of not that big person) – so it is easy for me to understand the concern.
I didn’t notice, however, bit problems with masks. In my experience whenever people are going to the places where they can’t keep the distance – they use masks.
Now, I want to point the author to a few strange claims.
First, since when not putting the dogs on the leash (or even leaving children unsupervised) is elitist? It reminds that meme about elitists riding subways. This looks like poorly chosen choice of words and brings a question what author really wanted to say.
Second, how can Carrboro be selected based on “economically diverse” criterium? It is again not very well thought choice of words at best.
Third, man, you really have to choose words better and not to complain about something saying “let their children and animals run free”. This way you are really asking for it on multiple levels. It is not a good idea to equate children to animals even if you respect animals a lot and it is not a good idea to oppose children freedom. I hope it was a bad word choice.
And, to recap. If your experience in Carrboro was subpar to your expectations, it is unfortunate. I wish you to have better experience in your new living space.
p.s. Well, this comment became too wordy. I assume in one way these text succeeded – I got click-baited and felt the need to go over all these details.
