A bicyclist using an e-bike suffered minor injuries after a driver struck them while turning their car into a business off North Greensboro Street in Carrboro on Friday afternoon.

A witness to the incident told 97.9 The Hill they saw the collision and aftermath of the scene shortly before 4:45 p.m., with a person riding an e-bike being struck by a car. A spokesperson for the Town of Carrboro later confirmed the bicyclist was unlawfully driving down the sidewalk before the collision. The e-biker suffered a minor injury and was not transported to the hospital for treatment.

Chapelboro is working to confirm whether charges will be filed over the collision — but as of Saturday morning, no incident or traffic accident data was shared on Carrboro Police Department’s Police 2 Citizen portal.

According to traffic map data, North Greensboro Street saw congestion right after the collision before returning to normal traffic patterns around 5 p.m.

Editor’s Note: A previous version of this story incorrectly said the driver unlawfully struck the e-biker. That has since been updated to correctly say the bicyclist was riding unlawfully before the collision.
