With a new live album and an upcoming show at Yonder Southern Cocktails & Brew in Hillsborough this Friday, The Yardarm joined Aaron this week for Live & Local.

First formed in 2017, The Yardarm is comprised of Jason Bales, JJ Westfield, John Cowan, and Palmer Smith. With a “gutsy and soulful Americana” sound, they released their debut EP “Camp Songs” in 2019. They’re working now on their first full-length album, due out possibly by the end of the year – but not before “Live on the Green,” the new live album that dropped earlier this month.

“Live on the Green” was recorded at the On the Green music festival at Southern Village last October. Recorded and mixed by John May of Dwarf Star Studios, the album features ten songs including several that appear for the first time in the Yardarm’s recorded repertoire.

Listen to the album here.

The Yardarm will be appearing live in Hillsborough this Friday, May 19, at 8 p.m. at Yonder Southern Cocktails & Brew, with Georgia Moon opening. They’re also playing a show on June 10, at The Cave in Chapel Hill.

The Yardarm stopped by Live & Local to discuss the new album and play three songs: “Richmond 1925,” “Some Day,” and “Unknown Painter.” Listen:
