Approximately 400 guests attended the 28th annual “A Tasteful Affair” at Kenan Stadium’s Blue Zone, and the 22 local food and beverage establishments that contributed helped to make the event a rousing success that raised $107,000 for the Ronald McDonald House of Chapel Hill.
The evening was more than a showcase for local food and drink, however. Celebrity judges — such as Jamie DeMent, author of “The Farmhouse Chef,” Laura Matrazzo, Miss North Carolina 2018, Erik Cole, of the Carolina Hurricanes and Joe Breschi, UNC lacrosse coach — determined the best entrée, beverage and dessert at the event.
Relative newcomer Fusion Fish took the crown for best entrée, TOPO Organic Distillery brought home the prize for best beverage and The Pickle Jar Cafe of Pittsboro was voted best dessert.
The RMH-CH is located on Old Mason Farm Road, and offers a “home away from home” for the families of children who are receiving treatment at UNC Hospitals. Families travel from far and wide for the level of medical care available at UNC, and the added stress on families of finding — and paying for — housing while their children undergo medical treatment can be overwhelming.
The Chapel Hill location of the Ronald McDonald House serves thousands of families each year, providing a place to stay and a support system to help families through some of the toughest times imaginable. Events like “A Tasteful Affair” help to support that additional help for families in need, and with the 30th anniversary now just two years away the RMH-CH can look forward to more support than ever from its surrounding community.
