This weekend, Carolina Public Humanities is hosting the annual Adams Symposium, featuring Oxford political theorist Teresa Bejan. Bejan is the author of the forthcoming book “First Among Equals: Visions of Equality Before Egalitarianism,” which explores the concept of equality and the widely different ways in which we’ve understood it (and applied it in practice) over the last two thousand years. She’ll be delivering a keynote speech at 5:30 p.m. Friday, April 17, with a panel discussion at 10:00 a.m. Saturday, April 18.

Aaron chats with Bejan about the new book, the historical concept of equality, the way we understand and manifest the idea of equality today, and the details of this weekend’s Adams Symposium.
