Two more Tar Heel football players have entered their names into the transfer portal. Senior receiver Beau Corrales, who has struggled with injuries since 2020 and didn’t catch a pass this season, announced his intention to transfer on Twitter, while junior linebacker Eugene Asante announced his decision on Instagram.
“The last five years have been nothing short of incredible,” Corrales said in his announcement. “I’m extremely blessed to have the experiences that I made here stay with me for the rest of my life.”
Corrales, originally from Georgetown, TX, expressed his appreciation for being able to play under former Texas head coach Mack Brown. Corrales took part in Senior Day festivities before UNC’s win over Wofford in November, and Brown had expressed optimism that Corrales would be suiting up for the Tar Heels next season.
Corrales ends his Carolina career with 80 receptions for 1,176 yards and 12 touchdowns. Six of those scores came during the 2019 season, in which UNC finished 7-6 and Corrales played in all 13 games.
Asante began the season as a starter in the UNC linebacker corps, but lost his starting job to sophomore Cedric Gray as the year progressed. After registering at least two total tackles in each of Carolina’s first five games, Asante did not reach that number again until the season finale at NC State. His career-best game came in the Orange Bowl against Texas A&M last January, in which Asante racked up 10 total tackles against the Aggies.
“I want to thank the University of North Carolina and Coach Brown for all the great life experiences and memories that I created at this University,” Asante said.
Corrales and Asante are the sixth and seventh Tar Heels to enter the transfer portal since the beginning of the 2021 season. Corrales is the third receiver to do so, after Khafre Brown and Emery Simmons announced their decisions midseason.
Meanwhile, the Tar Heels are still awaiting their bowl bid after finishing the regular season 6-6. Bowl bids will be announced Sunday, December 5.
