Kate Faasse is adding another trophy to her collection.

The UNC junior forward, who finished the 2024 season with 20 goals while leading the Tar Heels to their 23rd national championship, was named the winner of the Missouri Athletic Club’s Hermann Trophy as the top player in collegiate women’s soccer on Friday evening.

Faasse is the 13th different Tar Heel to win the award and the first since Crystal Dunn in 2012. It’s the 14th Hermann Trophy win for the program overall — Mia Hamm won the award twice.

Faasse’s 20 goals were the most among all Division 1 players and the most by a Tar Heel in a single season since Casey Nogueira scored 25 in 2008. Four of Faasse’s goals came in NCAA Tournament play, including a golden goal against Penn State in overtime of the NCAA quarterfinals and a penalty kick goal in a 3-0 win against No. 1 Duke in the semifinals. Faasse started all 27 of UNC’s matches and scored at least one goal in 15 of them. In Faasse’s first two seasons in Chapel Hill, she scored four goals combined.

Among Faasse’s other accolades for her 2024 season are a National Player of the Year award from Top Drawer Soccer, first team All-ACC and All-America honors and a spot as a finalist for the 2024 Honda Award in women’s soccer.
