The UNC women’s soccer team got the Tar Heels’ visit to Dublin, Ireland off on the right foot. Carolina defeated Irish professional side Shelbourne F.C. 3-0 in an exhibition match at Tolka Park Friday. The match was played in conjunction with the football team’s game against TCU in the Aer Lingus College Football Classic Saturday.

UNC scored all three of its goals in the first half, with Scottie Antonucci, Summer Denigan and Bella Devey each finding the back of the net. For Denigan, it was her fourth consecutive outing with a goal for the Tar Heels — though, because of the match’s exhibition status, the statistics won’t be counted as official.

The match was played in front of 1,867 fans Tolka Park, a record for women’s soccer at the 102-year-old venue. Among the supporters were ACC commissioner Jim Phillips and members from the UNC marching band, which will also play at the football game at Aviva Stadium Saturday.

Following Friday’s exhibition victory, UNC will now make the long journey back across the Atlantic and across North America to Arizona, where the Tar Heels will face the Wildcats Thursday, Sep. 3 at 10 p.m. Eastern time. Carolina will remain in Arizona to face Arizona State the following Sunday at 1 p.m. Eastern.
