A first-half goal proved to be the difference Saturday night as unranked NC State upset the No. 3 UNC women’s soccer team, 1-0. It’s just Carolina’s second loss on the season, and their first on the road.
Jamesee Joseph scored the Wolfpack goal in the 26th minute, one of just eight shots taken by NC State for the entire match. Carolina took 24 shots, but couldn’t find a way through the Wolfpack defense. The Tar Heels also held a 10-3 advantage in corner kicks. Emily Colton and Emily Murphy both took two shots on goal. Sophomore Talia Dellaperuta, who was playing in just her fourth game of the season for UNC, led the team with five shots.
This is just UNC’s third loss to NC State in women’s soccer in 52 matches all-time. The Tar Heels are now 10-2-2 overall this season and 3-2-2 in ACC play. The road doesn’t get any easier for Carolina in their next game: a massive home matchup with No. 1 Florida State at Dorrance Field on Thursday night.
