For a program-record seventh time this season, the spoils were shared as the UNC women’s soccer team played to a draw with No. 12 Notre Dame, 1-1 at Dorrance Field in Chapel Hill.

The final score belied Carolina’s statistical domination on the night, as the Tar Heels outshot the Fighting Irish 17-2 and took nine corner kicks to Notre Dame’s zero. It was Avery Patterson who opened the scoring for UNC, slotting home a rebound off one of Carolina’s many corners in the 18th minute. But the Irish answered in the 42nd, converting one of their two shots on the night to equalize.

The Tar Heels kept knocking on the door in the second half, sending three more shots on the Notre Dame goal but coming away frustrated each time. Carolina goalkeeper Emmie Allen had to stay sharp, too, parrying a Notre Dame shot which could have stolen a win in the 87th minute. But it was Carolina who had the last best chance at a winner, as Ally Sentnor sent her team-leading fourth shot of the game off the crossbar with less than 30 seconds remaining in the match. It summed up the night and a frustrating stretch of matches for UNC, which has now tied three matches in a row by identical 1-1 scores. In each, Carolina scored first. The Tar Heels haven’t scored multiple goals in a match since September 30.

At 9-0-7 (4-0-4 in ACC play), UNC will host senior night against Syracuse on Sunday at 1 p.m. before visiting Boston College on October 26 for the regular season finale.
