The UNC women’s soccer program released its 2022 regular season schedule Wednesday, and it features several challenging non-conference opponents as well as a tough ACC slate.

After two exhibition matches in early August against VCU and 2021 national runner-up BYU, the Tar Heels will officially open the season at home against 2021 SEC Tournament champion Tennessee on August 18 at 7 p.m. The Tar Heels follow that up with a home match against UNC-Wilmington before embarking on a three-match road trip.

The first of those road matches comes against Texas in Austin, who won the Big 12 regular-season title in 2021. Three days later, UNC will stay in Austin to take on another Big 12 opponent in Baylor. The road trip concludes with a trip to Columbia, MO, to face Missouri.

Carolina will return home on September 4 to play UCLA, before opening ACC play at Duke on September 8. The Blue Devils won at Dorrance Field last season and advanced to the national quarterfinals of the NCAA Tournament. UNC will then play one more non-conference match at home against UCF before fully jumping in to conference play.

Home matches against Virginia, Boston College, Pittsburgh, NC State and Wake Forest are featured, as well as road trips to Syracuse, Virginia Tech, Florida State, Miami and Louisville. The final three road matches all come consecutively, meaning the Tar Heels will have an abnormally early Senior Night against Wake Forest on October 14.

The Tar Heels are looking to rebound from a disappointing 2021 season, one which saw Carolina miss the ACC Tournament and lose its first game in the NCAA Tournament, each ignominious firsts in the history of the program.
