The UNC women’s soccer team made it an unbeaten weekend at Dorrance Field Sunday afternoon, shutting out UNC-Wilmington to move to 2-0 on the young season. Including its two preseason matches, the team still has yet to concede a goal in 2022.

Though the 2-0 scoreline wouldn’t suggest it, the Tar Heels dominated the match in every facet. Carolina outshot the Seahawks by a 23-2 margin, including an 11-1 advantage in shots on goal. While UNC took five corner kicks, UNC-Wilmington took none.

On the scoresheet, it was quite the debut for redshirt freshman striker Ally Sentnor. Sentnor missed her entire true freshman season due to an ACL injury suffered in the preseason and was absent for Carolina’s opener against Tennessee on Thursday night. Sentnor was returning from Costa Rica, where she and teammate Tori Dellaperuta were competing at the FIFA U20 World Cup. Sentnor introduced herself to Dorrance Field with a bang, sending a bullet shot into the back of the net in the 34th minute.

Sophomore striker Emily Murphy, who dealt with her own injury issues in 2021, doubled the advantage in the 74th minute, sending in a point-blank header off a perfect assist from senior forward Emily Moxley. Moxley, who played at UNC-Wilmington in 2019 before transferring to Carolina, also picked up the assist on Sentnor’s goal.

The No. 10 Tar Heels, who have played all four of their matches (two preseason, two regular season) in Chapel Hill, will now embark on a long road trip through Labor Day weekend. The Tar Heels will visit Texas for a true road match on Thursday, August 25, before playing Baylor in a neutral-site match in Austin that Sunday. Carolina will then visit Missouri the following Thursday before finally returning home against No. 13 UCLA on Sunday, September 4.
