The national champion UNC women’s lacrosse team now knows its road to defending its title. The program released its 2023 regular season schedule on Tuesday afternoon.

The Tar Heels’ season will get underway with an exhibition against Elon on February 4 at Dorrance Field, with the regular-season opener coming against James Madison in Chapel Hill on February 11 at 2 p.m. Other non-conference opponents include Liberty, Florida, East Carolina and High Point. UNC will visit Northwestern on March 19, in a rematch of the teams’ thrilling national semifinal last summer. In that game, the Tar Heels erased an eight-goal deficit in the second half to advance to the national championship.

Carolina will also have a rematch of that championship against Boston College. The Eagles will visit Dorrance Field on March 4 in UNC’s ACC home opener. The Tar Heels will host Clemson in Chapel Hill on March 20; this is the Tigers’ debut season playing women’s lacrosse. Other notable dates include an April 1 visit to Notre Dame, Senior Day against Syracuse on April 15 and the regular-season finale at Duke on April 20.

This year’s ACC Tournament will be played at American Legion Memorial Stadium in Charlotte in late April.

Carolina is coming off an undefeated 2022 season which saw the Tar Heels win the program’s sixth straight ACC title and third national championship.
