The UNC women’s lacrosse team is sitting back atop the national rankings this week, following a thrilling win at No. 1 Boston College on Sunday.

Carolina had been the No. 2 team in the nation behind Boston College since the first polls were released during the preseason. UNC received all 22 first-place votes in Monday’s Inside Lacrosse poll, making them the unanimous No. 1 team. Boston College fell just one spot to No. 2.

No. 5 Syracuse, No. 8 Duke, No. 14 Notre Dame, No. 16 Virginia and No. 25 Virginia Tech round out the ACC representation in the poll. Carolina will face all five of those teams in consecutive games to end the regular season after a visit to High Point on Wednesday.

The Tar Heels have won 36 of their last 37 games, going back to the halted 2020 season. When extended to the end of the 2019 season, that streak becomes 44 of 46 games, with the only two losses coming to Boston College in NCAA Tournament play. Carolina has not lost a regular season game in almost three years.

The Tar Heels were ranked No. 1 for the entire 2021 season, in which Carolina took an undefeated record into the Final Four before falling to the eventual national champion Eagles.
