The UNC women’s basketball team released the non-conference portion of its 2022-23 regular season schedule Wednesday afternoon. The schedule includes three true road games and several Power 5 opponents.

The season begins with three straight home games in Carmichael Arena, the first being a date with Jackson State on November 9 at 7 p.m. It will be the first ever meeting between the schools in women’s basketball. TCU and South Carolina State will visit Chapel Hill on November 12 and November 16, respectively. The Tar Heels defeated the Horned Frogs, 79-46, in Fort Worth last season behind 25 points from Texas native Deja Kelly.

The Tar Heels will then embark on their first true road trip of the season, visiting Harrisonburg, VA to take on James Madison. Carolina throttled the Dukes, 93-47, in Chapel Hill last season.  Following that trip, UNC will journey across the country to Oregon to take part in the Phil Knight Invitational in Portland. Carolina faces Oregon in the first game of the four-team tournament on Thanksgiving Day, and will play either Iowa State or Michigan State the following Sunday.

The team will stay on the road as the calendar turns to December, traveling to Indiana to face the Hoosiers in the ACC-Big Ten Challenge on December 1. The team has two more home games following the exam break, hosting UNC-Wilmington on December 7 and Wofford on December 11. The non-conference slate ends with a road trip to North Carolina A&T on December 16 and a date with Michigan in the Jumpman Invitational in Charlotte on December 20.

Carolina is looking to build upon a renaissance 2021-22 season which saw the Tar Heels win 20 games and reach the Sweet 16 for the first time in seven years. Head coach Courtney Banghart returns four starters from that team.
