Look out: the UNC volleyball team may be starting another winning streak. The Tar Heels took their third straight ACC win Friday night with a clinical sweep of Boston College. It was also their first ACC road win of the year.

After trailing early in the first set to the Eagles, Carolina used a 7-2 run to take control, and grab a lead they would not relinquish. Reigning ACC Freshman of the Week Mabrey Shaffmaster picked up three kills in the 25-20 first set win for the Tar Heels.

It would not be nearly as competitive for the rest of the match. The Tar Heels jumped out to an 11-4 lead in the second set and cruised from there, taking the frame by a 25-10 score. A kill from Shaffmaster served as set point.

UNC and Boston College split the first 10 points of the third set, but it was all Carolina from then on. Kaya Merkler, Nia Parker-Robinson and Emily Zinger all contributed kills on a massive 20-8 extended run to put the match to bed, with the Tar Heels taking the third set 25-13 to complete the road sweep. UNC has now won nine straight sets in ACC play after dropping the first set against Wake Forest last weekend.

Shaffmaster and Zinger tied for the lead among all players with nine kills. Merkler and Parker-Robinson both had eight.

Carolina now moves to 14-4 on the year and 3-4 in ACC play. They’ll face a challenging road match with Syracuse on Sunday afternoon before returning home for a rivalry tilt against NC State.
