It’s Carolina’s fourth loss in ACC play this year, and drops them to 7-5-1 overall, and 2-4 in conference.
The match marked the first time all season the Tar Heels have not outshot their opponent. Louisville took 12 shots versus just nine for Carolina. UNC goalkeeper Alec Smir made five saves, but couldn’t keep out two late attempts from Louisville’s Aboubacar Camara.
The Tar Heels played much of the second half with just 10 men, after Tim Schels drew a red card in the 58th minute. Freshman midfielder Ken Bellini led Carolina with two shots on goal. Fellow freshman Tega Ikoba, who started after scoring goals in three straight matches, took two shots but couldn’t find the back of the net.
Carolina’s road ahead doesn’t get much easier, with No. 14 Loyola Marymount visiting Dorrance Field on Tuesday, October 19. Carolina only has three more regular season matches to play before the ACC Tournament begins in November.
