The magnificent rebuilding job by UNC head women’s basketball coach Courtney Banghart continued on Wednesday, with four top-tier recruits for the class of 2021 officially signing their National Letters of Intent.
According to ESPN, all four players are ranked among the top 20 in the country and the Tar Heels have the No. 2 incoming class in the country behind only South Carolina.
The class is led by local product Teonni Key (Cary High School/Cary, NC), a 6-foot-3-inch wing with great positional versatility. Key is ranked as the No. 9 player in America.
Also included are sharpshooting 5-foot-7-inch guard Kayla McPherson (Madison County High School/Hull, GA), 6-foot guard Morasha Wiggins (Kalamazoo Central High School/Kalamazoo, MI) and another 6-foot-3 wing in Destiny Adams (Manchester Township High School/Whiting, NJ).
McPherson is ranked No. 17 in the class, while Wiggins and Adams are just behind at No. 18 and No. 20 respectively.
“At Carolina, we work hard to recruit the best nationally, as well as to ensure that the best talent in the state stays home,” Banghart said in a release. “In this class, we did both and we couldn’t be more excited about all that lies ahead for this group.
“We are eager to add their speed, versatility, athleticism, shot-making, defensive toughness, and so much more to our program,” the UNC head coach added. “Destiny, Teonni, Kayla, and Morasha chose Carolina for all the right reasons and they look forward to doing something special here together.”
