Much like what Mack Brown is doing to rejuvenate the UNC football program, head coach Courtney Banghart and the Tar Heel women’s basketball program have been on a recruiting hot streak of their own.

In rankings released on Tuesday, ESPN has Banghart’s class of 2021 listed as the second-best in America behind only South Carolina.

The Tar Heels are adding four players ranked in ESPN’s top 20, led by wing Teonni Key — the No. 9 player overall. UNC will also welcome guards Kayla McPherson (No. 17) and Morasha Wiggins (No. 18) alongside forward Destiny Adams (No. 20). Carolina added verbal commitments from Key and Wiggins in June.

This represents the continuation of a much-needed recruiting boost for a program that has made just one NCAA Tournament appearance since 2015. Banghart welcomes two five-star recruits to this upcoming season’s roster: guard Deja Kelly and forward Anya Poole.

UNC went 16-14 last season in its first year under Banghart and tied for 11th in conference play.
