Preseason All-ACC guard Paris Kea scored 25 points Friday night to help lead the UNC women’s basketball team to a 73-60 win over the Kent State Golden Flashes in its home opener at Carmichael Arena.

The win improves the Tar Heels to 2-0 to start the 2018-19 campaign, while Kent State starts the season 0-1 with the loss.

Sophomore forward Janelle Bailey was the only UNC player besides Kea to score in double figures, as she posted a double-double with 13 points and 10 rebounds.

The Tar Heels built an early 15-point lead in the game, but had it erased by halftime. Kent State rallied to make the score 36-35 at the break in favor of UNC before eventually fading in the late stages of the game.

In the fourth quarter, the Golden Flashes actually pulled ahead 52-50. From there, however, the Tar Heels wrestled control of the game away and took home the victory.

UNC guard Stephanie Watts scored all nine of her points in the fourth quarter to help put the final nail in Kent State’s coffin.
