The University of Virginia canceled the remainder of its women’s basketball season on Thursday, which includes two games against UNC–scheduled for Jan 21 and Feb 14.
Health and safety concerns surrounding the COVID-19 pandemic prompted the move, with Virginia joining Duke as ACC schools to shut down women’s basketball for the season.
Virginia played just five games this season–two inside the conference–and lost all of them.
It has yet to be announced whether the ACC will schedule replacement games for the Tar Heels and the other teams still scheduled to play Virginia.
The Tar Heel women are currently 7-4 this season with a 2-4 record in ACC play.
We will not complete the remainder of the 2020-21 season due to health and safety concerns. The decision was made with the overall health and safety of the student-athletes and staff in mind #GoHoos
