A pair of Tar Heel midfielders earned Academic All-ACC recognition in men’s soccer on Wednesday, as sophomore Victor Olofsson and freshman Tim Schels each earned the honor.

Olofsson hails from Vaernamo, Sweden and is an economics major. Schels is from Erding, Germany and is majoring in exercise and sport science.

On the field, Olofsson played in 12 games and started in three but did not record either a goal or an assist. Schels started 17 of the Tar Heels’ 18 games and played in all of them — contributing one goal and one assist.

To gain eligibility for the Academic All-ACC team, student-athletes must have a 3.0 grade point average in their most recent semester and as a cumulative average for their collegiate careers.

All 12 ACC teams had at least one player selected in men’s soccer, with Duke’s seven selections topping the conference.

The Tar Heels went 9-5-4 during the 2020-21 campaign, using a late-season hot streak to propel themselves to a surprise appearance in the College Cup — where they were ultimately defeated by eventual national champion Marshall.
