UNC senior attacker Chris Gray was recognized Tuesday as the ACC Men’s Lacrosse Scholar-Athlete of the Year, and leads a list of six Tar Heels named to the Academic All-ACC team.

Gray — the 2021 ACC Offensive Player of the Year for his efforts on the field — majored in management and society and was a recipient of the ACC Weaver-James-Corrigan Postgraduate Scholarship. He is set to begin studies at the Kenan-Flagler Business School in the upcoming school year, where he will also play out his fifth year of eligibility with the Tar Heels.

The native of Wading River, New York led the Tar Heels to a 13-3 record this past season while setting a new school record with 91 points — scoring 49 goals and dishing out 42 assists. His leadership on and off the field also carried the Tar Heels to the No. 1 overall seed in the NCAA Tournament and their first Final Four appearance since 2016, where they fell to eventual national champion Virginia in the semifinals.

Gray was joined on the Academic All-ACC team by teammates Will Bowen (junior/business administration), Collin Kreig (freshman/undeclared), Connor Maher (junior/business administration), Zac Tucci (junior/business administration) and Matt Wright (sophomore/exercise and sport science).

Eligibility for the Academic All-ACC team requires student-athletes to have a 3.0 grade point average in their most recent semester and as a cumulative average throughout their college careers.
