UNC head football coach Mack Brown was honored Tuesday as the Dodd Trophy Coach of the Week, for the outstanding performance by his Tar Heels in a 62-26 victory at then-No. 10 Miami on Saturday.

The award recognizes a football coach who led his team to a significant victory during the previous week, while also embodying the award’s three pillars of scholarship, leadership and integrity.

In what was the regular season finale for both teams on Saturday, the Tar Heels racked up a new school record with 778 total yards of offense — including 544 on the ground.

The Tar Heels also had their most points ever against an AP ranked opponent and the largest margin of victory in school history over a ranked team.

UNC is 8-3 this season under Brown’s leadership, and currently has the inside track for the first Orange Bowl appearance in school history — which would also represent the Tar Heels’ first major bowl appearance since 1950.

“The Tar Heels had a record-breaking performance for the ages on Saturday,” Jim Terry, chairman of the Bobby Dodd Coach of the Year Foundation, said in a statement. “Coach Brown is a former Dodd Trophy winner, so it’s no surprise how quickly he’s elevated the North Carolina football program in only his second year back in Chapel Hill.”
