Monday was another successful day for the UNC men’s tennis program, as both William Blumberg and Rinky Hijikata won their second-round matches at the NCAA Men’s Singles Tournament and moved on to the Round of 16.
Blumberg scored a huge victory over No. 3 ranked Hady Habib of Texas A&M in straight sets, 7-5, 6-2 — making the fifth-year senior the first 10-time All-American in ITA history when also including his performance in doubles competition.
Hijikata, meanwhile, continues to make the most of his first career NCAA Singles Tournament appearance, taking down Wake Forest’s Eduardo Nava 7-6, 6-4.
Blumberg will face No. 14 Gabriel Diallo of Kentucky in the Round of 16 on Tuesday, while Hijikata will look to defeat No. 4 Val Vacherot of Texas A&M.
