The UNC men’s and women’s tennis teams will each go dancing this spring, as both Tar Heel sides earned bids to the NCAA Tournament on Monday.

The women, having earned an automatic bid by virtue of winning the ACC Tournament title, are the No. 4 overall seed in the field and will host Navy in a first-round matchup at the Chewning Tennis Center in Chapel Hill on May 3. That match is scheduled for 6 p.m. The winner will face either Wisconsin or William & Mary in the second round – also at Chewning – the following evening. Carolina is 22-3 overall, having won nine straight matches.

This is the 20th time in the last 21 seasons the Tar Heels have earned one of the 16 national seeds in the NCAA Tournament, and the 25th straight season Carolina will play in the tournament. UNC is looking to defend its NCAA title from last season.

No. 1 Oklahoma State, No. 2 Stanford and No. 3 Michigan round out the top four national seeds. No. 5 Virginia and No. 15 NC State are the other ACC teams to earn national seeds, while Miami, Florida State, Wake Forest, Georgia Tech and Duke also qualified. Individually, four Tar Heels will compete in the NCAA singles tournament, led by No. 4 overall seed Fiona Crawley. Elizabeth Scotty, Carson Tanguilig and Anika Yarlagadda also earned bids to the 64-person field. In doubles, three UNC teams will compete in the 32-team tournament: Reese Brantmeier and Scotty, Crawley and Tanguilig, and Abbey Forbes and Reilly Tran.

On the men’s side, Carolina will face Memphis in a first-round matchup in Knoxville on May 3, with the winner facing either East Tennessee State or No. 7 overall seed Tennessee the next day. UNC enters the field with a 14-9 overall record.

This is the 28th time in 31 seasons under head coach Sam Paul Carolina has reached the NCAA Tournament. The Tar Heels are looking to reach the round of 16 for the 10th consecutive season.

Also qualifying from the ACC are No. 3 overall seed Virginia Tech, No. 6 Wake Forest, No. 10 Florida State, No. 13 Duke, No. 14 NC State and unseeded Georgia Tech. For a full look at the men’s bracket, click here.
