After suffering just its second loss of the season on Saturday against No. 6 Georgia Tech, the top-ranked UNC women’s tennis team responded Sunday afternoon with a clean 7-0 sweep over the Virginia Tech Hokies at the Cone-Kenfield Tennis Center in Chapel Hill.

The Tar Heels (17-2, 6-1 ACC) shuffled around their singles lineup following the loss, and ended up with their first 7-0 shutout in over two months.

Makenna Jones took over in the No. 1 singles spot for head coach Brian Kalbas and earned a 6-2, 6-3 victory over 66th-ranked Natalie Novotna–the Hokies’ only ranked player.

UNC would ultimately go on to cruise to four more wins in straight sets, before Alle Sanford closed things out with a three-set victory over Caroline Daxhelet (6-4, 3-6, 1-0).

Virginia Tech dropped to 11-5 this season with the loss, including a 2-5 record against ACC competition.
