Sunday’s series rubber match at Boshamer Stadium between the UNC baseball team and the No. 7 Florida State Seminoles saw the visitors score five runs in the eighth inning on the way to a 9-4 victory.

It was the second straight win in the series for the Seminoles (20-5), after taking the second leg of Friday’s doubleheader.

Junior Cody Roberts hit a leadoff solo shot in the bottom of the first inning to put UNC ahead 1-0, but Florida State responded with three-run homer by Cal Raleigh in the top half of the third to briefly take control of the game.

From there, the middle stages of the game became a back-and-forth affair with the teams trading runs and ending the fifth inning tied at 4-4.

Not until Florida State’s Nick Derr hit a grand slam against UNC reliever Josh Hiatt did the outcome start to come to light. Following Derr’s big shot, Jackson Lueck made it back-to-back home runs with a solo homer that also served as the final run of the game.
