The UNC baseball team was held without a run on Sunday afternoon in Tallahassee, as No. 18 Florida State rolled to an 8-0 victory in the series rubber match.
After a hot start to the season, the Tar Heels (14-12, 9-9 ACC) have now dropped five of their last six games.
The Seminoles (15-9, 10-8 ACC) scored the game’s first run on a wild pitch by UNC starter Max Carlson in the first inning, then followed that up with a three-run homer by Elijah Cabell to make it 4-0 heading into the second inning.
Another wild pitch in the second inning allowed Florida State to make it 5-0, while a two-run double in the fourth inning extended the Seminoles’ lead to 7-0.
The fifth inning brought yet another RBI double from Florida State, which represented the game’s final run.
After Tyler Causey got a single in the second inning for UNC, the Seminoles retired 20 consecutive Tar Heel hitters until Dallas Tessar drew a pinch-hit walk in the ninth.
UNC finished the game with just four total hits.
