The UNC volleyball team scored the signature victory of its young season on Friday night in Carmichael Arena, handing the No. 14 Duke Blue Devils their first loss of the season by a score of 3-1 (26-24, 25-17, 20-25, 25-16).
After trailing by six points late in the first set, the Tar Heels (2-1, 2-1 ACC) rallied to take a close victory that would ultimately put them in control of the match the rest of the way.
Amanda Phegley led the Tar Heels with 13 kills in the match, while Aziah Buckner and Parker Austin each added 12 apiece.
UNC also posted an outstanding .263 hitting percentage as a team. The Blue Devils, meanwhile, were held to just a .161 mark on the other end.
With the loss, Duke falls to 3-1 overall and 3-1 inside the ACC.
