UNC announced Monday its men’s basketball team will host Michigan at the Dean E. Smith Center on Wednesday, December 1 as part of the 23rd annual ACC/Big Ten Challenge.

This marks the third time the two programs have met in the event and also the third time in the last five seasons.

The most recent meeting during the ACC/Big Ten Challenge came during the 2018-19 season, with the Wolverines handing the Tar Heels an 84-67 loss in Ann Arbor. During the 2017-18 campaign, the Tar Heels beat the Wolverines by a score of 86-71 in Chapel Hill.

Michigan also handed UNC a 73-64 loss in the finals of the Battle4Atlantis Tournament in November of 2019, an early-season event held in the Bahamas.

UNC holds a 10-12 all-time record in the ACC/Big Ten Challenge and a 4-3 overall mark against Michigan.

New Carolina men’s basketball head coach Hubert Davis will have a tall task on hand against a Wolverine squad which has consistently been among the nation’s best in recent years under head coach Juwan Howard. Michigan finished the 2020-21 season with a 23-5 record, falling in the Elite Eight round of the NCAA Tournament.
