A three-year deal between the Charlotte Sports Foundation and Jordan Brand will see both the UNC men’s and women’s basketball teams compete in the brand new Jumpman Invitational beginning during the 2022-23 season.
The event will take place at the Spectrum Center in Charlotte on Dec. 20-21, 2022 and feature the men’s and women’s teams from the original four schools to sign basketball and football deals with Jordan Brand: UNC, Michigan, Florida and Oklahoma.
“We’re incredibly excited to bring what we believe will quickly become the marquee college basketball event of the holiday season to the Queen City,” Danny Morrison, executive director of the Charlotte Sports Foundation, said in a statement. “These are four of the most storied and competitive programs in the game, and we’re looking forward to the interconference play.”
Two games will be held on each night of the event, with ESPN set to televise each of them.
Morrison said there is a possibility that the Jumpman Invitational could be expanded to include more schools in future seasons, and that it could go on for longer than the original three-year contract.
“We’re hoping this will be the start of one of the most anticipated, coveted and competitive events in all of college basketball each and every year,” Morrison said. “Charlotte has all the resources to make this an overwhelming success including an incredibly passionate fan base, and we look forward to seeing this event grow in stature for years to come.”
