The UNC baseball team suffered a huge blow on Monday, with the news that star right-handed pitcher Gianluca Dalatri will have to miss the remainder of the season due to a hip injury.
Dalatri is currently scheduled to undergo surgery for the issue on May 8.
This marks the second consecutive season that the 6-foot-6-inch Dalatri–the Tar Heels’ top starting pitcher entering each of the last two seasons–will be forced to miss significant time due to injury.
The New Jersey native has appeared in just six games this season, and none since going 3.1 innings in UNC’s win over Duke back on March 31. In that time, Dalatri posted a 2.25 ERA through 32 innings while striking out 35 hitters.
