A report from FootballScoop.com’s Zach Barnett on Thursday said that UNC and new head football coach Mack Brown are set to hire Greg Robinson as the Tar Heels’ new defensive coordinator.
Robinson has previously worked under Brown in the same position in both 2004 and 2013.
The 2004 season saw Robinson put together a defense that helped Texas go 12-1 with a Rose Bowl win over Michigan, while in 2013 he was hired to the role as a mid-season replacement when Texas fired Manny Diaz.
Syracuse hired Robinson as head coach following the 2004 campaign, a job he held through 2008.
He has also spent two years at Michigan and was most recently in charge of the defense at San Jose State from 2014-15.
Over the last two seasons, however, Robinson has been out of the game.
This is the second addition Brown has made to his coaching staff, following yesterday’s announcement that Texas A&M tight ends coach Tim Brewster will also be joining.
