Wednesday afternoon saw the National Collegiate Baseball Writers Association release its Midseason Watch List for the 13th annual Stopper of the Year Award–given each year to the top relief pitcher in the nation.

UNC freshman closer Josh Hiatt–currently tied atop the ACC with 12 saves this season–was among the 40 names on the list.

The Charlotte native has been nothing short of impressive in his debut season in Chapel Hill, compiling a microscopic 1.39 ERA in 23 appearances. He’s also struck out 44 hitters during his 32.1 innings of work, compared to just 16 walks.

Opponents have a combined batting average of only .143 in their at-bats against Hiatt.

There are 18 different conferences that have at least one reliever on the list, with the ACC, SEC and Pac-12 each having five apiece.
