The UNC football program used social media Tuesday to reveal the jersey numbers of the 13 newcomers who joined the team in January.

One notable selection was No. 10 for quarterback Drake Maye, whose father, Mark Maye, wore No. 14 when he was the Tar Heel quarterback in the mid-1980’s.

Other choices included No. 19 for incoming transfer Ty Chandler, a running back coming to UNC from Tennessee, and No. 6 for highly-touted defensive end Keeshawn Silver.

Wide receiver Gavin Blackwell — a teammate of UNC quarterback Sam Howell at Sun Valley High School in Monroe, NC — will take over the No. 2 this season from the departed receiver Dyami Brown.

UNC’s Class of 2021 still has seven members expected to join the program in the fall. 12 first-year players enrolled early to participate in spring practice.

UNC is currently scheduled to open spring practice on March 23, with this year’s spring game set to take place at Kenan Stadium on April 24.
