The UNC football team addressed its need for a running back on Tuesday when Tennessee senior Ty Chandler announced on Twitter he will join the Tar Heels as a graduate transfer.
A native of Nashville, Chandler was a four-star recruit in the Class of 2017 and the fifth-ranked running back in the country according to 24/7 Sports.
In four years at Tennessee, he carried the ball 412 times for 2,046 yards and 13 touchdowns while also hauling in 58 passes for 465 yards and three scores.
Including work in the return game, Chandler’s 3,291 total yards rank fifth all-time in Tennessee history.
Current UNC assistant coaches Tommy Thigpen and Robert Gillespie helped recruit Chandler to Tennessee during their time working together in Knoxville.
Chandler’s arrival in Chapel Hill comes as a huge boost for the Tar Heels, who are losing star running backs Javonte Williams and Michael Carter to the NFL.
