The UNC football program and new head coach Mack Brown announced Friday the addition of Brian Hess to the staff as the strength and conditioning coach.
Hess comes to Chapel Hill from Army, where he had the same job and worked alongside new Tar Heel defensive coordinator Jay Bateman over the last two seasons.
In addition, Hess also spent two years in the past at Sam Houston State working with UNC’s new offensive coordinator, Phil Longo.
“After recently asking our new staff members for strength and conditioning coach suggestions, both Phil Longo and Jay Bateman told me they knew of the perfect choice and it was the same guy,” Brown said. “They were effusive in their praise for Brian and said he was the best young strength coach in college football. As soon as I met Brian, I realized they were absolutely right. He’s high-energy, innovative and committed to helping our players achieve excellence.”
Hess replaces former UNC strength and conditioning coach Lou Hernandez.
