This past Sunday, the No. 2 UNC field hockey team avenged its season opening loss to No. 9 Michigan with a dominant 5-1 victory over the Wolverines at home.

Sophomore back Ashley Hoffman was named the ACC’s Defensive Player of the Week on Tuesday for her efforts–which included great defense, of course, but also a goal and two assists.

The Mohnton, Pennsylvania native assisted on the Tar Heels’ first two goals against Michigan–both of which came after the visitors had taken a 1-0 lead.

Later in the game–on a penalty corner–she scored her first goal of the season.

UNC is now 9-2 in 2016, with its next game being a road match scheduled for Tuesday night against Davidson.
