The UNC baseball team dropped Friday’s series opener in South Bend against No. 8 Notre Dame by a score of 4-0.
Starting pitcher Austin Love allowed just four hits through six innings for the Tar Heels (20-19, 14-14 ACC), but exited the game behind 2-0 on the scoreboard.
Notre Dame (22-8, 19-8 ACC) took the lead in the fourth inning with a solo home run by Jack Brannigan and an RBI single by Kyle Hess.
There was no more scoring until the eighth inning, when the Fighting Irish added another pair of runs after a critical error in the field by UNC.
The Tar Heels went just 1-for-14 at the plate with runners on base and left a total of 10 runners stranded. Despite six hits–the same amount Notre Dame had–UNC was unable to get anything going during the most critical moments.
