The UNC baseball team suffered its third consecutive loss to No. 8 Notre Dame on Sunday in South Bend, falling by a score of 19-5 as the Fighting Irish completed the weekend sweep.

UNC (20-21, 14-16 ACC) scored all five of its runs through the first three innings, which tied the game at 5-5 since Notre Dame erupted for five runs in the bottom of the first frame.

Saturday’s game saw the Tar Heels nearly come back from 10 runs down to tie things up, but that would not be the case on Sunday. The Fighting Irish scored six runs apiece in both the fourth and eighth innings to break the game wide open, while also scoring once in the third and fifth innings.

Notre Dame finished the game with a whopping 21 hits and four home runs. Its 19 runs scored were the most UNC has allowed since Georgia Tech scored 19 back in April of 2001.

Over the three-game weekend series, the Tar Heel pitching staff surrendered 36 runs.

Max Reimer led UNC offensively on Sunday in his first start at catcher, going 2-for-4 with a pair of RBIs. Danny Serretti had a solo home run, while Angel Zarate and Mac Horvath also added an RBI of their own.
