The UNC baseball team snapped its two-game losing skid on Tuesday afternoon at Boshamer Stadium with an 8-0 shutout victory over the NC A&T Aggies.

Freshman Max Alba picked up his first career win on the mound for the Tar Heels (7-2), while fellow newcomer Tyler Causey hit his first career home run in the eighth inning to give the game its final score line.

Alba threw the first five innings of the game while allowing just two hits and striking out six Aggie hitters. Offensively, the Tar Heels had five different players drive in at least one run. Tyler Kehoe led the team with two RBIs,

UNC led NC A&T (2-6) 1-0 entering the fourth inning on the strength of Kehoe’s first RBI, before scoring at least one run in each of its final four frames at the plate–including three runs in the sixth inning and two more in the seventh.

Chris Joyner, Nick James and Davis Palermo came out of the bullpen to close the game out for head coach Mike Fox, allowing the Aggies only two hits over the final four innings–bringing their total to just four for the game.

“We had a couple first outings today and I think we’ve got a chance to be pretty good on the mound<” Fox said afterwards. “We are able to mix and match guys and bring a few different looks in. We pride ourselves on running guys out there that throw strikes.”
