For most Tar Heel fans, they don’t need any more proof that junior quarterback Mitch Trubisky is among the country’s best at his position.

On Tuesday, however, they got some.

The list of candidates for the Johnny Unitas Golden Arm Award–given annually to the nation’s top college quarterback–was trimmed to just five players, including Trubisky.

Other signal-callers on the list include: Luke Falk (Washington State), Patrick Mahomes II (Texas Tech), Baker Mayfield (Oklahoma) and Deshaun Watson (Clemson).

Candidates must be seniors in college or be fourth-year juniors–players like Trubisky and Watson who have redshirted.

Through his first eight games as UNC’s starter, Trubisky has led the Tar Heels to a 6-2 record while making a mockery of opposing secondaries.

Over a three-game span earlier this season–wins against James Madison, Pittsburgh and Florida State–the Ohio native threw for 1,290 yards with 11 touchdowns and no interceptions.

In total, Trubisky has thrown for 2,378 yards with 18 touchdowns and two interceptions–while ranking third in the nation with a completion percentage of 71.2.

The Unitas Golden Arm Award will be presented on Friday, Dec. 9 in Baltimore, Maryland.

Past winners of the award include: Peyton Manning (Tennessee, 1997), Eli Manning (Ole Miss, 2003), Matt Ryan (Boston College, 2006), and Andrew Luck (Stanford, 2011).
