A total of three Tar Heel wrestlers won ACC titles on Sunday in Pittsburgh at the annual ACC Wrestling Championships, marking the first time the program has had three conference champions since 2006.
Zach Sherman took the title at 141 pounds, while Austin O’Connor (149 pounds) and Clay Lautt (174) each did the same in their respective weight classes–helping the Tar Heels finish in third place overall at the event.
In addition, Jaime Hernandez (133 pounds) and Brandon Whitman (197) each claimed second place finishes. At 157 pounds, A.C. Headlee earned third place as the sixth–and final–Tar Heel to finish among the top three.
NC State took home the team championship with a total of 81 points, followed by Pittsburgh with 77 points and UNC with 67.5.
