UNC junior Austin O’Connor won his second consecutive ACC title at 149 pounds on Sunday at Reynolds Coliseum, while the Tar Heels finished third overall at the ACC Championships.

O’Connor rallied from a 6-0 deficit to defeat Virginia Tech’s Bryce Andonian 10-8 in what was a rematch of last year’s final at 149 pounds.

Zach Sherman (141 pounds) and Clay Lautt (174 pounds) each took home runner-up finishes for the Tar Heels, while Devin Kane (184 pounds) and Max Shaw (197 pounds) also earned places on the podium by finishing third in their weight classes.

By taking fourth place at 157 pounds and 285 pounds, respectively, Josh McClure and Andrew Gunning represent the sixth and seventh Tar Heels to earn NCAA automatic qualifier spots on Sunday.

NC State won the league title as a team for the third year in a row with 89.5 points and was followed by Virginia Tech with 65.5. The Tar Heels weren’t far behind the Hokies with 63 points of their own.
