A total of six UNC softball players were named Tuesday as recipients of the Easton/NFCA All-America Scholar Athlete award for 2018-19, which breaks the program’s previous single-season record of four.

Destiny DeBerry, Leah Murray, Katie Grace Olinger, Sierra Parkinson, Brittany Pickett and Kiani Ramsey each managed to earn the award, which goes to players who achieved a grade point average of 3.5 or better last academic year.

Of those players, DeBerry, Murray and Ramsey all graduated last May with degrees in exercise and sport science. Parkinson is a psychology major who medically retired from the team last season. Pickett is a senior pitcher this year majoring in exercise and sport science, while Olinger is studying advertising and public relations in the Hussman School of Journalism and Media.

This is Olinger’s second time as an NFCA Scholar Athlete.
