A former three-time All-American while playing at UNC, Sam Perkins can now add National Collegiate Basketball Hall of Famer to his illustrious resume–as he was selected Wednesday as part of the Hall’s Class of 2018.

Perkins was the ACC Rookie of the Year in 1981 and played a large role alongside James Worthy and Michael Jordan on the Tar Heels’ 1982 national championship team.

He graduated UNC following the 1984 season, having scored 2,145 points and grabbed 1,167 rebounds—marks that still rank third and second in school history, respectively, to this day.

Life after college for Perkins included a 17-year career in the NBA after being drafted fourth overall by the Dallas Mavericks in 1984, one pick after Jordan was taken by the Chicago Bulls.

Other players joining Perkins in this year’s College Basketball Hall of Fame class include: Otis Birdsong (Houston), Sean Elliott (Arizona), Marvin Webster (Morgan State), Sidney Moncrief (Arkansas) and Paul Westphal (USC).

The class also includes a pair of coaches in Charleston’s John Kresse and Oregon Tech’s Danny Miles.

Official inductions will take place at the 2018 National Collegiate Basketball Hall of Fame Induction Celebration, which will be held on Sunday, Nov. 18 in Kansas City.
