With reports swirling over the weekend that the 2020 college football season could be canceled or postponed until the spring, many of the sport’s top players took to social media to express their desires to play.

This includes UNC star quarterback Sam Howell, senior cornerback Patrice Rene, senior tailback Michael Carter and senior wide receivers Beau Corrales and Dazz Newsome.

Howell and Newsome simply tweeted the hashtag “#WeWantToPlay”, while Rene–who tore his ACL last season and is in his final year of eligibility–had a little more to say.

Carter’s tweet made another point by saying, “A lot of guys are safer at school than they would be in their home state.”

Corrales acknowledged that having diabetes puts him at higher risk for COVID-19, but stated his acceptance of that risk as he revealed his desire to play.

Many other top players across the country such as Heisman candidate quarterbacks Trevor Lawrence of Clemson and Justin Fields also took to social media to show their support for the movement.

Both Lawrence and Fields posted tweets that laid out a list detailing what the players want as they try to move toward playing in the fall.

The issue of whether to play college football in the fall is not going away any time soon, as university leaders attempt to figure out which move is the right one to make.

As for the players who haven’t opted out and are training hard to play in the fall, they’ve now made it very clear where their hearts lie.
